Toondah Harbour

Hi ,

We are gearing up for the Welcome Back Shorebirds event on Saturday 21st September at the Toondah Harbour Foreshore and couldn’t be more excited!

We hope to see you there as we celebrate the return of our amazing travellers back to their home shores. If you are joining us be sure to come say hey on the day, we will be sporting our stylish Act for Birds t-shirts.

There is still time to RSVP but we understand not everyone will be able to make it. Don’t fret as there are other ways you can support our birds on the day.

We want to make hundreds of shorebird cut-outs to line up along the shore to highlight what is at stake if Walker Corporation’s Toondah Harbour development goes ahead.

Can you help us to make these cutouts and keep up the campaign to protect migratory shorebirds at Toondah Harbour?

These remarkable birds migrate more than 10,000 km back to Australian coastlines every year after breeding in the Arctic. Toondah Harbour is a vital area for Eastern Curlews, a place to rest, recuperate and fatten up before it’s time to make the long journey back. But how long will this special site be safe for them?

Right now Australia’s largest privately owned real estate company Walker Corporation is threatening to build 3600 private apartments out into the Toondah Harbour mudflats, which are part of the Moreton Bay marine park and identified as critical shorebird habitat in the global Ramsar treaty.

It would be a horrendous global precedent, and permanently destroy important shorebird feeding habitat.

Will you help us line the shore of Toondah Harbour to show what is at stake?

We’ll be inviting media and local politicians to the event so they can learn more about how special it is.

Help us show them, and welcome back the shorebirds in style.

Cheers,

Fiona Blandford
